Air Source Heat Pump Installation in Oxfordshire
The owners of this elegant mansion set in the heart of Oxfordshire needed a new heating system for their three hundred year old heat-hungry building.
Set in elegant grounds with its own woodland and manicured lawns the house was in need of complete renovation which included a stylish glassed orangery.
This ‘off the beaten track’ grade II listed building was being heated by wood fires and antiquated oil boilers prior to the renovation project.
The Problem:
The beautiful mansion had historically been difficult to heat with fossil fuels. Set just outside a pretty Oxfordshire village, mains gas was not available for use to heat the property.
In 2008 the owner decided to explore the options of using renewable energy together with an under-floor heating system for the up-grade to his home but did not want to install any system that would visually impact on his home.
Air source heat pumps seemed the ideal solution for heating and hot water but the client didn’t want to have the heat pumps too close to the beautiful old building. Installing the heat pumps some distance from the house would create problems with control of the heat pumps.
The Solution:
WDS Green Energy installed three 40kW air source heat pumps in a wooded area some 120m from the house. These ‘jumbo jet’ sized heat pumps were the first of the new generation of high performance large air source heat pumps installed in the UK.
To provide a solution to the problem of controlling the heat pumps from so far away the control panels for the three heat pumps were installed in a small housing adjacent to the heat pumps. Then special high quality shielded cabling was laid in underground ducting to connect the control panels in their housing to remote displays in the plant room which was situated within the property.
The Benefits:
The property now benefits from green energy for the home for its heating and hot water, lowering running costs and providing a comfortable environment for his family and guests. The clients were delighted that the enormous heat pumps didn’t impact on the visual splendour of his prestigious manor house.
The three air source heat pumps performed extremely efficiently in meeting all heating and hot water demands for the beautifully restored building.
