Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Installation in Swansea
Only a couple of miles from the Gower’s sandy beaches Tankey Lake Livery offers not only horse trekking tours along the sandy beaches but also holiday accommodation in a select group of beautifully presented holiday cottages and converted barns.
With 31 acres of farmland between the Gower’s two highest hills Tankey Lake Livery provides a wide choice of outside interests for its visitors including pony trekking, bird watching, fishing and golf.
The Problem:
Running a livery yard and riding establishment requires a high use of power for lighting so the owners of Tankey Lake Livery decided to find a way of cutting down their electricity bills by exploring the possibility of installing photovoltaic panels on one of the livery yard’s barn roofs.
The owner wanted to save money on his business operation and wanted to reduce his carbon footprint with a renewable energy system and so came to WDS Green Energy for a solution.
The Solution:
After a detailed site survey WDS Green Energy advised the owners that a south-facing barn roof with no shading was the ideal space to maximise the annual yield of the photovoltaic array.
The 3.99kWp solar PV system was installed on the barn roof and has been producing green electricity for the business since then.
The Benefits:
The solar PV panels will not only reduce his electricity bills but will also provide an excellent income under the Government supported Clean Energy Cash-back Scheme, also known as the Feed-in Tariff Scheme (FiTs). The client receives 41.3p for every kWh of electricity generated, which amounts to a combined annual income and savings of around £1,665.
The FiT is guaranteed for 25 years for this array (now 20 years for new systems) during which time it will rise in line with the Retail Price Index (RPI), This means that over the lifetime of the scheme his photovoltaic system will generate around £41,625 of tax-free income and savings.
