Ground source heat pump in Surrey
This impressive country house in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, built in 1895, features 8 bedroom beautiful, extensive gardens and indoor and outdoor swimming pools.
The problem
In recent years the property has been modernised to allow a more natural light to flow through, bringing with it the challenge of heating such a large property with a large amount of glazing. The owners were looking for a sustainable heating alternative to oil and LPG that could also reduce their heating bills.
The solution
WDS, on this occasion, were asked to finalise the design and then install a system already started by another company. Working with heat pump manufacturers Viessman, WDS Green Energy designed a large ground source heat pump system big enough to supply the property’s heat demand of over 62kW.
The benefits
Two sleek units from Viessman, providing 42kW and 21kW of heat respectively, were installed and connected to nearly 2km of ground collector pipe laid discretely in the grounds. The system provides heating for the main property, indoor pool area and converted garage. The highly efficient system saves the owners thousands of pounds on their energy bills every year as well as returning them quarterly payments through the government’s Renewable Heat Incentive.
